Slow fishing

Any of you that follow salt water fishing have heard of kite fishing. You use a kite to take a bait out away from the boat similar to how we use side-planer boards around here. Well, Mike Schwister (shown in the photo) redefined “Kite Fishing”. He actually caught a kite! That guy can catch anything. ( A Do-It Flutter Jig in case you are thinking of targeting Kites). He’s still working on that picnic table. We’ve all hooked it, but no one has been able to land it!!!
You can only imagine how slow the shore fishing has been if the best I can do is a picture of a guy that caught a kite. That’s been our best catch lately. DNR’s Matt Coffaro had a great quote this week that sums up how all of us feel right now. “I don’t mind not catching fish but I would at least like to have an excuse”. I couldn’t agree more. The water is a good temp. There is enough bait around to interest some fish. But there is just nothing going on.

I can’t even find many people even trying these days. The boats are doing great. The shore guys aren’t.

Things will change, be patient. It's a good time to get your gear ready for the mid-summer blitz.

Till then, tight lines and smooth drags.

Not much night fishing for me, but it is a good option, Glow in the dark spoons and live alewives fished on the bottom.
